Kenny Chesney Concert

For Allison's birthday, we got tickets to go see Kenny Chesney at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco (just north of Dallas) and our friends Robyn and Cole went with us. The concert didn't just have Kenny playing, it also included Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, and Sugarland. Unfortunately, Sugarland had to cancel their act because the lead singer was sick...but still, three great bands were there. By the way, Pizza Hut Park is an outdoor stadium where the Dallas soccer team plays. This bit of info becomes very relevant here in a minute. Since the concert started at 5:30pm on a Saturday, we thought it would be fun to get there a little early and tailgate for a while. So we got drinks and snacks and lawn chairs to use in the parking lot leading up to the show. Well, on the way there it started raining...hard. We didn't get discouraged, and made our way to the parking lot and sat in the car, waiting for it to let up Sure enough after a little bit, the rain stopped and we were able to get outside and truly tailgate for a while. We were constantly checking the radar on my iPhone, and it looked like the red portion of the thunderstorm was past us. Should be smooth sailing from then on, right? Wrong. Once we got inside and the show started, it began to rain again when Lady Antebellum was performing. Not too hard though. I was able to stand there and take it like a man. Cole was gallant enough to let Allison use the poncho he had brought for himself. Allison and I were ill prepared. I guess I shouldn't have quit the Boy Scouts. Anyway, it was raining. It got to be a little much for us, so we went and found cover up near where the concession stands were...we were sitting down on the field, nowhere near anything to shield us from the rain. We stayed up there for the last couple of minutes of Lady Antebellum and for all of Miranda Lambert. After the rain let up and Kenny was getting ready to perform, we went back down to our seats on the field. Kenny came out and was doing his thing, putting on a good show. It had started raining a little bit, but again...Cole and I were man enough to handle a little wetness. But then, it really started coming down. Huge drops. It felt like someone dropping pennies on me from 10 feet in the air. So we decided that we would much rather enjoy Kenny's show from a covered area. Unfortunately, so did the thousands of other people who were getting soaked. By the time I made it to "safety" (it was lightning really bad too) I felt like I had just jumped in a swimming pool. We tried to wait around for the rain to let up before heading back to the car, but it never did. While we were waiting, apparently they decided that the rain/lightning was too much for the show to continue. So we heard someone on the loud speaker say to keep our ticket stubs. We didn't hear the rest of the announcement so we don't know if a refund is coming or if they are rescheduling the show or what. I am still trying to investigate exactly what the end result was. After hearing that, we finally we bit the bullet and went to the car in the pouring rain because it didn't look like the rain was going to let up anytime soon. Allison and Robyn both had ponchos, but they weren't doing much in the monsoon. We made it to the car and headed home.

It was fun tailgating and going to the show, despite the rain. But it sure would have been a lot more fun if the weather had been better.
