One more week (but almost not)

Let me begin by explaining the title of this post. We had a doctor's appointment this morning, and when we got there, Dr. Weprin said that she had Allison scheduled to admit into the hospital Saturday night and have the baby on Sunday. We spent the entire appointment thinking that Sunday was going to be the day, but at the end Dr. Weprin realized that she got her weekends mixed up and she is not on call this weekend (it's next weekend). The reason she wanted to move it up to Sunday was because she was on call and had no other appointments to worry about...she could focus 100% on labor and delivery. So then it went back to the original plan of Wednesday.

Dr. Weprin said that Allison has really not had marked improvement with all of this bed rest, so we are definitely going to induce and not let labor come naturally (that is unless it comes naturally before inducement...which is unlikely). Allison has pregnancy-induced hypertension, the stage before preeclampsia. Preeclampsia could include seizures, liver problems, and kidney failure. That is the main reason for inducing early...to get Jackson out of there before it gets worse. If Allison gets sick or anything like that, it affects Jackson more after 38 weeks when he is bigger and needs more sustenance from Allison. He was fully developed at 35 weeks so these last couple of weeks have been strictly growth and getting bigger. There shouldn't be any cause for concern for him being born at 38 weeks. Dr. Weprin also said that she expects Jackson to weight about 7.5 pounds at birth.

So Allison will get to the hospital Tuesday night at 9pm. After she checks in, she will get a drug call Cydatek to prompt natural labor like dilation and whatnot. Then, Wednesday morning, she will start taking Pitocin with causes contractions to get Jackson out of there. Dr. Weprin said that there is a 95% chance that Jackson will be born on Wednesday, November 4th. The only two scenarios that would cause him to be born Thursday are: (1) if Allison's labor just naturally takes a long time and everything progresses normally but at a slow pace, he might be born after midnight putting his birthday as 11/5/09 or (2) if Allison and Jackson are fine but the Pitocin does not take effect until later in the day Wednesday, Dr. Weprin may elect to shut it off Wednesday night and crank it back up again on Thursday before opting for a C-Section. The latter scenario is rare and has only happened to Dr. Weprin once in the last 8 or 9 years.
